What we record
We count visits with PostHog. For each visit it records the pages you view, the site that sent you, your browser, operating system and device type, and the links and buttons you click. It stores nothing on your device to do this: no cookies and no local storage.
Is it tied to you?
Not to your name. PostHog receives your IP address and keeps it with the visit. Instead of a cookie, it counts you under an ID worked out from your IP address and browser together with a value that changes every day and is then deleted, so a visit today and a visit tomorrow count as two different people.
PostHog stores this data in the United States. We don’t make recordings of your visit, we don’t sell the data, and we don’t use it for advertising. PostHog’s own policy is at posthog.com/privacy.
Other services your visit touches
- Cloudflare hosts the site, so every request you make to it passes through Cloudflare.
- Google serves the fonts and the video thumbnails, so your browser fetches those from Google’s servers.
- YouTube plays the videos. The player loads only when you press play (straight away if JavaScript is turned off), from YouTube’s reduced-cookie address, youtube-nocookie.com.
- Amazon receives you when you follow one of our affiliate links, and knows you came from here. Amazon and other third parties may place and read cookies on your browser.
- Fourthwall runs our store at store.bytemycache.com. Its own privacy policy applies once you are there.
Messages you send
If you use the contact form, we get your name, email address and message. They go into our own customer database (CRM), which runs on Cloudflare and stores its data with Neon. When you start filling in the form, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you are a person and not a bot. If the CRM can’t be reached when you send, the form emails your message to us through Resend instead. An email you send us lands in our inbox. Either way, we use what you send only to reply to you.
